ABOUT BRECA
Baseball/Softball Recreational Club of Abuja is a non-profit organization established to provide a platform for young Nigerians and aspiring umpires to get into the game of Baseball/Softball at the amateur level.
OPERATING OBJECTIVES
To partner with interested public and private (elementary, secondary and tertiary) schools in Nigeria in introducing the game of baseball/softball to interested students, and to enable such students learn how to play the game as a hobby and an amateur sport.
To contribute towards raising a general awareness about baseball/softball among Nigerian youth through sensitization, using any existing channels of amateur sports in the country; to do awareness and sensitization events, targeting audiences that can galvanize awareness and interest in the game of baseball/softball in Nigeria.
To do skills acquisition events aimed at developing a skills pool on various aspects of baseball/softball (i.e., how to construct a standard baseball/softball playing field; the rules of playing the game in various positions; the rules and skills of umpiring the game; the standard formats of data recording; general recordkeeping practices in the game; the overall governance of a baseball/softball league; and various commercial aspects of baseball/softball).
To partner with interested and capable individuals and organizations, within Nigeria as well as internationally, in sourcing for technical expertise, money, materials and solidarity towards advancing the game of baseball/softball as a youth amateur sport in Nigeria.
We also cultivate channels and platforms of friendship and cultural exchanges with interested persons, groups and baseball organizations in countries where baseball is well developed and entrenched, thereby learning and benefiting from such relationships in advancing amateur baseball/softball in Nigeria.
To explore and harness commercial, entertainment and entrepreneurial opportunities connected to baseball/softball, as strategies for both short-term and long-term development, and towards achieving baseball/softball as a sport and a cultural pastime in Nigeria.
To partner with interested, willing and capable investors in acquiring a suitable parcel of land, and causing to be constructed on that land a fitting clubhouse and baseball stadium in Abuja; to appoint a competent facility manager for maintenance of such an edifice.
To carry out advocacy work aimed at advancing the game of baseball/softball into a nationally-organized amateur and professional sport in Nigeria; to nurture appropriate related business activities within the ambit of
baseball/softball.
MEET THE TRUSTEES
BRECA is managed by a team of dedicated individuals with passion fo social reform and youth development.
Board chairman
Sintiki T. Ugbe is a Member of the Board of Trustees of our organization. Her portfolio includes overseeing the inclusion of women in the pool of softball coaches and trainers that our organization aims to develop through our school-based softball seeding and training program activities.
Tom S. Ekawu is a Member and Secretary of the Board of Trustees of our organization. A professional accountant with over 30 years of work across diverse sectors and environments, Tom brings strong skills to reinforce our financial accountability and fundraising capabilities. As Secretary of the Board, he is our designated interface with the Corporate Affairs Commission, financial partners, and technical program partners.
Kisha W. Ugbe is a Member of the Board of Trustees of our organization. She expresses a strong interest in sports medicine, and is an advocate of a youth-inclusive sports-for-development approaches aimed at achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 8, 11, 12, and 16. She strongly desires to see young girls gaining a high proficiency in playing amateur Softball in Nigeria, and she is a team leader in identifying and selecting elementary and secondary schools for our school-based softball seeding project.
Ferdinand B. Alexander is a Member of the Board of Trustee of our organization. He is our focal point for ICT, digital innovation and male youth-inclusion strategies. His expertise in ICT enables our organization to create communication channels and advocacy platforms for our intending school-based programs, and visibility for our partners, their financial, technical and in-kind contributions, and our own work.
